JavaOne 2014: What, where, when and who

JavaOne is a yearly conference started by Sun Microsystems in 1996, where the different Java technologies are discussed.  It usually runs for four to five days in San Francisco, California.  There are a variety of technical discussions on different Java topics for all of the conference days.  If you want a more focused symposium, you can attend the โ€œBirds of a Featherโ€ discussions held in the evening.

Aside from the Java technologies, one of the biggest draws is the highlighted device.  Every year, JavaOne features a hardware or device that attendees can buy at a deep discount way ahead of general availability.  Some of the devices highlighted in past JavaOne conferences include Palm V, the Java ring, Sharp Zaurus, Homepod, RS Media robot, Sentilla Perk Kit, HTC Diamond and Pulse Smartpen.

For 2014, the conference will be held on September 28 to October 2, at the Parc 55 Wyndham and Hilton San Francisco Union Square, along with other venues throughout San Francisco.

There will be several tracks including:

  • Clients and UI
  • Core Java Platform
  • Internet of Things
  • JVM Languages
  • Java and Security
  • Tools and Techniques
  • Server-Side Java
  • Java in the Cloud
  • Agile Development

Each of these tracks will have several session types including BOF, conference session, general session, hands on lab session, Meet the Experts, SIG meeting, Scene and Be Heard Theater session, Track General session, tutorial and user group forum session.  What these means is that you can easily focus on the topics that mean most to you as well as learn according to your skills.  You can get introduced to the Internet of Things, while learning more about server side Java and then sharing your expertise about agile development.

But what makes JavaOne a premiere draw is the quality of its speakers.  In 2014, you can expect to hear from the best Java developers from all over the world, including:
