Oracle Database Cloud Service: Cloud Security, compliance and more

Oracle Database Cloud Service is designed and certified to meet many of the regulatory requirements.

When an organization considers embracing cloud service database, some of its key concerns are data security, data breaches, and data loss or leakage. This scenario puts cloud computing into the security spotlight.

For customersโ€™ peace of mind, the Oracle Database Cloud Service was created with utmost concern for security. It holds the same strong security foundation like the Oracle Database, with meticulous security practices and procedures embedded in the product, the development stage, and Cloud operations practices. Itโ€™s because Oracle understands how vital it is for your business operations to keep your information highly confidential and data remain yours all the time.

Physical security

Security starts at the Oracle data center. Oracle employs full-time, 24/7 security staff to ensure that only authorized personnel can access the data center. Oracle applies modern security measures and enforces all the necessary security policies to ensure security and safety within the data center facilities, including shipping and parking areas. In addition, redundant power, uninterruptible power supply devices and backup generators support all security systems.

Logical security

Oracle Database Cloud Service practices strict management authorization policy concerning employees who are accessing critical applications and systems. It is imperative to get approvals for any access to Cloud Services, and the approver has to ensure that access is given only to the right personnel based on his user-role and business needs. Oracle Cloud Service also constantly monitors logs, network activities and audit trails.

Data availability

Oracle Database Cloud Serviceโ€™s architecture is robust with availability, scalability, maintainability and customer security as top considerations. Each data center boasts of redundant firewalls, redundant web farms, redundant F5 load balancers with SSL acceleration, multi-processor and redundant (failover) servers, and redundant database disk using real-time replication.

Environmental controls

Advanced monitoring and reporting systems are available in all data centers. These systems enable the data centers staff to monitor environmental controls as well as all power systems, fire detection and suppression systems, and water sensors. The systems then alert the data center staff to potential issues.

Equally important is ensuring that the temperature is correct in all areas. All data centers are equipped with zoned temperature control systems to check the temperature. If it varies outside the preset level, an alarm is generated.

Disaster recovery

Customers can rely on Oracleโ€™s well-established disaster recovery plan. With Oracle Cloud Service, each data is replicated in near real-time. There are two replication servers within the production data center and one in a Disaster Recovery facility. This infrastructure creates multiple copies of all customer data to protect the information against any system breakdown or even entire data center failure.

Intrusion detection and anti-virus

Oracle Database Cloud Service utilizes an advanced intrusion detection system to monitor any dubious or unauthorized activity in the network. Respective personnel reviews all activity logs daily and escalates alerts if necessary. All the files sent to Oracle Database Cloud Service are scanned, and if there are infected files, they are flagged and not allowed into the service.

Regulatory compliance

Oracle Database Cloud Service is designed and certified to meet many of the regulatory requirements. While the demanding security environment continues to evolve, Oracle Database Cloud Service relentlessly continues its efforts to stay ahead of security threats.
