What is Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2?

With Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2, you get top-notch services and systems from Oracle.

As one of the Oracle Engineered Systems powered by Oracle VM, Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2 gives you a turnkey solution, in that it is ready to use and easily integrated into your own enterprise processes.  How is that so?  First, Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2 integrates network, storage and compute resources in a fabric that is software-defined, allowing you to have efficient and agile deployments for your data center.

The Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2 is easily scalable.  You could get anywhere from two to twenty-five computer nodes for every rack that you have.

What do all these mean?  You could deploy your apps quickly.  You will not just be working with hardware, but software as well, out of the box and using Oracle VM Templates.  These Oracle VM Templates may be downloaded from the Oracle site already ready to deploy or you could create your own customized VM Templates.

And if you already have a sizable investment towards your current data center, do not fret.  Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2 allows you to leverage these investments by working compatibly with a lot of operating systems that you may already use and with various storage devices as well.

All you need to do: not much!

When you choose Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2, all you need to do is get the rack in place, connect all the cables such as power, storage and network cables and then power it on.  Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2 will be the one to automatically install all the software you need as well as provisioning the hardware.  This will only take a few minutes!

If you need to add virtual machines, you can use Oracle VM Templates to make it easy for you.  This means that you can easily install and configure Oracle’s other products such as Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Database and Oracle RAC.

Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2 has a “wire-once” design, in which the storage and server components are configured and installed via software.  That means you no longer have to physically cable and recable anything to modify the system.

And since you are rolling out preconfigured software and hardware, you no longer have to deal with too much maintenance and support.  This means that your IT guys would not have to spend time on it, freeing them to do other pressing tasks.


With Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance X3-2, you get these already included:

  • Oracle VM – for your server virtualization needs, which is designed so that you could deploy applications quickly.  You can have up to 128 virtual CPUs running on different OSes such as Oracle Linux, Microsoft Windows and Solaris.  With Oracle VM, you can deploy your entire Oracle Database or Oracle applications and other Oracle stacks in a matter of minutes!
  • Oracle SDN Software – allows you to connect your servers to storage and networks dynamically.  You no longer need networking and storage cards by using virtual NICs and virtual HBAs.  This way, even if you have highly complex deployments for your data center, you will not deal with cables and headaches!
  • Controller Software – allows you to enjoy automated installs, configuration and management of your server components with just a click of a button.  You only need to decide on basic configuration parameters and then use Oracle VM Templates or create your own VMs manually.  Your apps are ready to use just within an hour!
