Why Use Oracle Database Appliance if You Use Oracle Database?

One of the best reasons why you should choose Oracle is because they offer everything you need to run your systems. From software to hardware, to technical support, you can get it all from one place. This is the case with their database offerings. If you are using Oracle Database, you might want to consider using Oracle Database Appliance for you to take advantage of the full features and functionality 18c offers.

Your database holds your company’s most important pieces of data. It runs your most important applications. There is absolutely no reason why you should continue using a DIY infrastructure where you have separate systems for your storage, network, software, and server. This deployment increases the risk, complexity, and cost, as well as taking up more time to deploy and manage.

You can avoid all of these if you use Oracle Database Appliance, which is designed to optimize your database.

Oracle Database Appliance combines networking, storage, server, and software. It integrates all of these into a single platform. It can optimize your database performance right out of the box. You can easily deploy, test, monitor, and integrate your database.

Oracle Database Appliance is also cloud-ready, already having the database and the applications loaded in. It supports database tools and services you need for OLTP, data warehousing, or in-memory database.
Every component of Oracle Database Appliance is designed by Oracle to work together. The software giant will also offer support for all of these.   Best practices and automation for your database is built in as well, so that you save time when you deploy your database solutions. What’s more, because you have all the resources you need, Oracle Database Appliance is able to get the most out of Oracle Database. It helps you get the best performance and speed from 18c.

There are three models of Oracle Database Appliance available now.

  1. Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S is good for single instance deployments, and supports both standard and enterprise editions of Oracle Database. It has 10 Cores and 12.8TB raw data storage.
  2. Oracle Database Appliance X7-2M is like X7-2S but has 36 Cores and can support up to 51.2TB data storage.
  3. Oracle Database Appliance X7-2-HA has 72 Cores and up to 128TB SSD or 300TB HDD data storage. You can use this for Oracle Real Application Clusters and RAC One.

Benefits of using Oracle Database Appliance

What advantages do you gain when you use Oracle Database Appliance? Here are some benefits:

  • You do not have to hire a lot of people to do your database, plus you can easily and quickly get your database up and running. Building your own system would require you to have different teams that will take care of network, storage, and server resources. You have to hire a database administrator, as well. With Oracle Database Appliance, you only need a database administrator to oversee everything. Oracle Database Appliance already provides all the things that you need and it takes only an hour to set everything up. What’s more, it is easier to manage than DIY systems. If you need help, you have one neck to choke, rather than dealing with a variety of vendors that you have for a DIY system.
  • More reliable and less chances of downtime. When using Oracle Database Appliance, you only have to deal with a single patch that will update everything – including firmware, operating system, database, and storage. That means there are fewer chances for human error when applying these upgrades and less need for planned downtimes. If you need your database to be always up, you can get the high availability models of Oracle Database Appliance, helping you avoid downtimes.
  • Oracle Database Appliance is more secure. Oracle designed Oracle Database Appliance with security in mind, rather than just being added on later as an afterthought. By default, the operating system is set to FIPS 140-2, the highest security level. The appliance also undergoes regular scans, which searches for vulnerabilities. Moreover, there is the quarterly patch that also rolls out security updates. To make it faster, encryption is delegated to a specialized chipset. This means that encryption does not slow down database operations.
  • It’s just perfect for Oracle Database. This appliance is designed specifically for Oracle Database. It has several features that make Oracle Database perform better, including the hybrid columnar compression that lessens your storage requirements while improving performance. It also has a built-in flash storage and cache that makes things speedier. Furthermore, it has hardware fault detection and remote console. Oracle Database Appliance also uses the same management interface that you are already using for other Oracle products.
  • Oracle Database Appliance makes your cloud journey easier and simpler. The database appliance is designed to be cloud-ready but can support on-premises deployments as well. You can easily transfer your applications and workloads hosted on Oracle Database Appliance to Oracle Public Cloud service. What’s more, backing your database and other files up to the cloud is also seamless. You can be sure that the backups are easily recoverable. These backups are also archived to help you with regulatory compliance. You also have access to database clones and backup hybrid architecture.
  • You can save more. When you use Oracle Database Appliance, you cut software licensing costs. When you have your own system, you would need to pay for every core that the system has. As most businesses know, building their own DIY system would mean that they have extra cores to accommodate future workloads, effectively making them pay for licenses for these unused cores. With Oracle Database Appliance, you only pay for the cores you use. This means that if you have a need for more cores, it will always be available for you, but if you do not use these, you will not pay for it. Oracle Database Appliance also has everything you need to run your Oracle Database, meaning that you no longer have to pay for other tools such as virtualization, testing, and storage management software; among others.
