If you are thinking of using Oracle Linux, then you are in good company. Not only are you getting one of the world’s most dependable software companies behind you, but some of the biggest enterprises in the world use Oracle Linux, too.
Yahoo!
One of first companies to convert to Oracle Linux, Yahoo! has been using Red Hat Linux before Oracle came up with its own flavor of Linux in 2006. Oracle’s strategy of offering Red Hat’s Linux distribution and offering cheaper support worked. Oracle chief executive Larry Ellison announced that Yahoo was one of the first and biggest corporations to convert early on. Yahoo’s Laurie Mann confirmed this, saying that they are using Oracle Linux in order to support innovative technology that helps it scale its infrastructure. But Mann also indicated that they were still also using Red Hat. The deal is a big one, with the company relying on its servers, numbering in the hundreds of thousands, for its business.
Other big customers
Oracle Linux also chalks up other big names as customers. Timex Group CIO Archana Deskus confirms that the watchmaker uses Oracle Linux. Deskus reveals that having one point of support for both Linux and Oracle software is a time and cost saver, and it also increases the company’s efficiency. Financial services and security firm, Diebold Inc., uses Oracle Linux along with Oracle Business Intelligence.
GlobeCast World TV, which provides media management services for TV broadcasters, relies on Oracle Linux and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) to achieve high availability for their systems. In turn, the company depends on the constant availability and scalability of its systems to keep the channels on air, and both Oracle Linux and RAC have been instrumental in its success in that regard.
ABC Stores, on the other hand, relies on Oracle Linux to run their mission-critical apps and systems. CTO David Awaya reveals that Oracle Linux support gives them a “real choice” in Linux support.
Meanwhile, Stuart Maue has tested different Linux distributions and found that Oracle Linux provided the best fit for their needs, according to CIO Bradley Maue.
